RPG only?

Hey everyone...

I've been wondering, is this for RPG exclusive artwork, or are general SW artworks allowed to be posted as well, and also fanfiction ones?

And, can I submit collaborations, say someone else did the lineart and I colored it?

Eclipse

Corran,

Great questions! The site's primary "purpose" is to provide artwork for GMs and Players who are in need... now I quoted purpose because let's face it, 1 out of every 5 images on swag actually fulfills that purpose, the rest of it is either artists who did the same thing for themselves, or just artists who enjoy doing it (like myself) so in that regard, we definitely take all sorts of stuff.

I've had a look through your deviant art site, and we don't do photo-manipulation around here really... I can only think of one on the site, and it's not classified as "art" with everything else.

As for collaborations... there have definitely been some in the past though they're generally by say... 2 guild members and then they pick who's gallery it should reside in. I'd be a little uncomfortable with showing someone's art who's not a site member. If that person wants to join as well though, and you want to collaborate on something, I'm not going to stop you. :-)

I hope that answers your questions.

Hey Eclipse!

Thanks for the fast reply.

Yeah, one of my main strengths is indeed photomanip, and I get why it's not often-seen around here, mainly I think because of copyright reasons and so on.

And since the only other thing I'm good at is coloring (I can't really draw stuff myself), probably joining the guild isn't such a good idea.

I would be able to lend my coloring "skills" to requests that are only done in lineart, though...

Eclipse

An interesting idea Corran, I'll marinate on how that might be handled in the new site... it'd be nice to have a directory of people who are open to collaboration and what they do... That's something way off in the future though if it EVER happens.

As for not being able to "draw" I totally get it. My drawing is a bit substandard IMO but the people here are REALLY great in that regard. They'll give critiques and advice and help you get better (if you want to) so I'd encourage you to pick up your pencil/pen/brush whatever fits your fancy and get to it. No time like the present to start learning... and from one photo-manipulation guy to another... :-) I think you'll find if you can do it with the attitude of learning, then this is a GREAT place for you.

Welcome to SWAG,

Before the new site, (2003-2004), Tracy Rodgers did some artwork for me of my fan fic characters, so if request ever get going again (hint), then you could probably get some artwork done of your characters and the artist will post here. I understand what you're saying though. I'm ok with making banners and layouts for websites, but I'd never be a decent artist, though.

TNJadeonar

Now that is interesting.

Hey Eclipse, so the system doesn't support sharing a single piece of collaborated work between two artists?

Kind of an understandable bummer, when IMHO a collaboration is more like 50/50% effort and credit by both parties if one draws and the other colors.

Hey - wait a second - Unless the line-art and colored versions resided in the respective artist's galleries? (with both artist's credit and reference links). Only thing then would be finding people who'd draw line-art to be colored.

btw - CorranFett - thats a superb color job on the line art of that Mandalorian on your deviant site!

Eclipse: Thanks for the encouragement, but I've enough stuff on my mind and work right now, so devoting time to improving my traditional art skills isn't an option, yet.

emimar: yeah, will see about that in the future. I'd love to do some requesting, but that can wait... :D

TNJ: Good idea with posting the seperate parts of a collaboration in each respective artist's gallery. Most people on DeviantArt do it like that, too. And thanks for the comment on my color job, glad you like it. Of course, it's nothing compared to the awesomeness of the line-artist. :D

Eclipse

TNJadeonar,

Yeah, you know I wouldn't be opposed to that except that... at least in SWAG's previous incarnation, SWAG was all about getting art to the RPG masses, and less about displaying artists' art. Now... I'm certainly not opposed to a policy change in that regard, and lineart one place colors another is totally fine by me, but that's the only argument against I can come up with. Things are easy enough at this point that I'm not going to make an issue of uploading the same image twice so... :-)

dredwulf60

Gee, I hope not.

I posted the line drawing of my firebat swoop, just so people COULD colour it for themselves.

Corran, if you wanted to color a firebat and send it to me, then I'd have no problem posting it with credit to you for the colours. In my opinion having multiple images of something like a swoop colored in different ways is a service to the role playing community.

If two characters want to 'buy' a firebat, its unlikely they'll want the same paint jobs. :) (At least in my group.)

P.S. Eclipse: Would that be against Guild Law for me to post it, considering Corran isn't a guild member?

Eclipse

You know I don't see any reason that should be a problem dredwulf. Preferably people like that would have their own gallery.

We'll try to work something out as it becomes an issue.

CorranFett

dredwulf, great point, especially when it comes to technical stuff like vehicles, where suppling an uncolored lineart gives way for creating great different versions. Sadly, I'm more into coloring characters, and haven't given vehicles or stuff a go, yet, but perhaps I will in the future...
