Request Forums Updates

2008 Feb 06

OMG, I ACTUALLY UPDATED THE REQUESTS FORUM! Ya, I know it's impossible to imagine, but I actually got around to it. I really need to automate that lol. Sorry you all have had to deal with all the extraneous claimed stuff floating around, but it should be all cleaned out at this point.

In other news, we continue to garner both new members and new guild members. SWAG now has nearly 2300 members on the site. That coupled with all the good artwork around here and everything else we do is resulting is somewhere around 170,000 page views per month! Which is GREAT news in my opinion. I've been working to get a new server up and running for swag for some time now, and indeed I succeeded with the help of my father (the server-guru). However we were both rather upset with the performance of that new server, and as such, we won't be using it. The machinery is just too old... which brings about a question I have, and I'd REALLY appreciate it if you all would comment on this post as an answer to this question.

If I were to come up with a way of donating money to swag for a new server, would you all actually respond to that with a monetary gift or should I not spend the time researching it. Let me know because while a new server is not a dire need, we are going to need one eventually.

Overall I'm LOVING the new work that's been being done. I think the new theme is working out nicely, and I can't wait to see what's going to get posted next. :-) You all are a great community, and I appreciate everything you do to make my job as the admin around here easy.

Thanks,

Eclipse

What exactly did you update in the Forum? You moved the threads to taken and finished requests, right?

Well, can't you allow the original poster of the thread to move his thread to these subboards? because you can move 'em to "Art Assistance", "Community Disc." or "Request", but not to either of "Taken Requests" or "Finished Requests".

Anyway, keep up the sweet work. This site really in great shape thanks to your efforts. :D

How much we talking about here? I mean, I love this place, but I'm a struggling artist and am forced to resort to lentils for dinner on occasion. Also, I think we buy about 65 American cents by the dollar over here.
Anyway. Let us know how much is needed. Maybe some sort of thermometer like you get when the local church needs a new roof or whatever... Or not.
I'm sure we'll all give what we can.

I'd help out, when I can, Eclipse... but unfortunately that wouldn't be as often as I'd like.

To answer the question of how much, I'd like to get us a really nice server ($3,000 USD range) which equates to a little over a dollar for each member of the site, but I doubt EVERYONE would give, or even most people. That's kind of my goal, and I may just put it up there, and see what we get. We'd have a killer machine running swag then. If we can't meet that goal, then something smaller I'm sure will do, but my current options are rather limited, so... We need a new solution.

I think you'll be incredibly lucky to get 10% of the total membership making any sort of donation. 1% would be more realistic, mostly the artists and hardcore members. Seems like a huge target for so few, but who knows? You don't get if you don't ask.

Stu,

I'm largely of the same opinion. There are definitely people who've joined and never come back, so the reality is we have no where close to that number of people as actual likely candidates. Still, google analytics says we've had 5400 unique visitors in the last 30 days. And if you consider that everyone probably visits the site from at least 2 locations (home and work) then that's still 2700 "unique" visitors. Chances are there are a few people out there that can visit from much more than 2 locations, but still, it's worth noting.

I'm probably going to put up a donations system here in the next week or two, and we'll see what happens. have to set myself up on paypal though. It's funny that I've never done the paypal thing. *shrugs*
