Man, I've just seen a bunch of requests finished in the 'Taken' forum, with the artists saying 'I don't know what's happened to this guy, but'...
What's up with that?
I know there's no answer to that question, but I just can't believe it. The work you guys do is amazing, and for requesters to just wander off is appalling to me. I mean, I'm sure that once you guys get excited about a project, the presence of the requester becomes a secondary concern, but come on! Can people be so disinterested in their very own personalized, original art?
I've had two requests illustrated here, and I have to confess, you'd have had to tear me away from the computer, pining for updates!
What does all this mean? I don't know! But I felt the need to tell all the SWAGgers that I love you guys, and the work you do!!! :D
Should be shot! ... Oh wait.. Sorry, I was just trying to finish the name of your topic :)
Welcome to SWAG!
Aw, that's so sweet!!
I have wondered the very same thing in the past. I've had this happen a few times, and I found myself thinking some very uncharitable things. Then it occurred to me that you never know - this person may have been hit by a car, anything! Maybe that's why they never came back?
Well, you never know...
I had a request taken over two months ago that by an artist who had just joined and then after he took it started to sketch it then vanished. I finally found him on deviant art and have been asking about but he still hasn't gotten around to it. For some reason my thread was never moved to the taken section. Some people have been waiting for a year to see their request finished.
Weird...
Acheron, would this be the "Human Mandalorian Jedi [Tensen01]" request? Thought I'd let you know it is actually in the 'taken' forum at the moment.
I agree it's rude to accept a request and then not complete it, and not even try and contact the requester with a sorry! But, I have to say, if you really want someone to spend their own personal time and energy on creating a picture for you, without you paying them to do so, then you can't complain too much if they decide they're not interested after all.
My advice is to either re-request the piece or update the request as 'untaken'. If you want it done sooner, then perhaps one of the Deviant Artists will complete your piece if you offer to pay them for their time.
I totally understand your frustration and the attachment you have to your character. You're one of the good guys! But you can't demand something for nothing - sometimes you've just got to cut your losses.
Thats it, it got moved? I would just re request but I really liked the sketch he did and I'm hoping he'll still be able to finish it some time.
As an aside:
Hi I.J.! Been awhile since I've seen you around here. And where has your cohort Amanda been and when will we see more stuff from her? :)
On the topic of requesters who vanish, I'd like to propose a cut off time for feedback, like a week or two. If we hear nothing back, we'll assume it's good to go.
I agree Hish! If I don't hear back in a few weeks I tend to assume I'm not going to and just post it to gallery anyway.
If I am in the begining stages of the drawing and ask for a responce and none comes....I save it for later and take a new request
The artist nerulean went missing during December while doing a request for me. I know that nerulean was from England and sometimes life gets in the way the pic looks okay to me in his blog. Is there anyway to get it posted from his blog to the main page. It was called Holocron Lesson [nerulean] or Watching the Holocron as nerulean put it. I often wonder were Gith disappeared to as well.
-LC :-)
Hello again, Hisham!
Amanda's still around, but can't fit in much SW drawing anymore... Real Life, and all! She fondly remembers her SWAG days, though. I'll tell her you say hello! :)
Apparently you can still copy pictures from blogs - you know, the ones that pop up?
I've had it happen to me a few times and have started signing ALL my work (even the WIP stuff) for that reason.
Having said that, though, I've had a bit of trouble working out how to actually do this myself...
LC - I'll email you what I managed to get. Hope it helps!
So, purely hypothetical question here, would it be taboo to offer to pay one of the SWAG artists for a drawing?
Sorry if this isn't as witty and thought provoking as normal, my hands hurt like hell right now.
Your hands hurt? You ok??
As for paying for work from the artists here - I think that would be cool. If you really want a piece done from a specific artist, they it would certainly be an incentive. Having said that, SWAG is generally 'not for profit' and has no pay-pal system like Deviant Art, so you might have to get creative...
Could always "tip" your artist through Paypal.. just PM them and see if they are interested...
If they are interested set a price for the work, and don't forget to pay :)
AS far as copying images that are in Wips'.. all you have to do, is right click the thumbnail, and Open in seperate window, or tab... Then from there you can right click the picture and save as... However, if it is not signed by the artist, please do not put the picture anywhere on the web.. ((Use it however you want at home)) but don't post unsigned work anywhere. :)
Thanks Xan!
I can always find ways to pay someone for work well done. And I FIRMLY believe in tipping.
I know the artists are overloaded already, and I don't want to seem like I'm trying to buy my way onto someone's priority list, so I'll just wait and see.
Mercy, thanks for asking. I have tendonitis and CTS in both hands from a succession of stupid career choices in my younger days, and yesterday I was working as a short-order cook in an Ewok-sized kitchen for my mother in law. I overworked my hands and when I posted that yesterday (in the middle of a break from our Saga Ed game) the tendons and muscles all the way from the tips of my fingers to the base of my skull were in knots. I couldn't even hold five playing cards in my hands for a round of Killer Bunnies.
Much better today though. Had a LARGE glass of moonglow and everything let go.
Aw honey!! glad to hear you're feelin a bit better today.
I used to be a Barista and have a lot of residual OOS (or RSI - whatever you want to call it) so I totally sympathise. Once dislocated a bone in my wrist pulling coffees - not fun.
But Chefs have it bad - plus there's that whole 'hardcore' attitude, like you're just meant to get hard or something. Sucks if you ask me...
That's why I stick to catering, as a rule. I can work slower and produce a better product with less pain.
By the way, Mercy, your work is truly stunning, I must say.
Thanks Bella!
I always thought it would be great get into culinary art. Some of the stuff people can create is just awesome! My brother is a Chef, and a real good one too, but the cooking genes have totally passed me by - I have trouble boiling an egg! Just doesn't seem fair somehow...
I'm the reverse. I'm the only person in three generations of the family who can cook.
Ha! That's talent, man!
I wish I could cook...
So your husband is the one who cooks or you eat a lot of takeout food. Just kidding you. My wife is the cook and ever now and then she loves to experiment and it is good, most of the time. I usually do the dishes, she cooks. That is our arrangement.
-LC :-)
lolz, don't feel bad Mercy. I do a lot of the cooking since my girlfriend missed out on the home-skills when she was little - she was too busy studying!
Boshuda
I was a chef until yesterday, just got fired guys. *sad face*
How bloody awful, I don't know what to do with myself! I haven't had a free day during the week in such a long time. I'm talking years!
Asok, I'll come and cook for you ;)
Sorry to hear it Purcell... you should come to Wichita.. we have more restraunts than any other city in the states. ((Per square mile))
Sorry to hear that too, Purcell. Been there. Here's hoping things'll look better soon.
I'd love to come work in the US but I'm rooted to England for now. Girlfriend and all that jazz.
The search for a new job starts tomorrow but I'm not looking forward to it, everyone is after work at the minute here and noone is getting any.
Damn recession.
Purcell, dude! That totally sucks!!
I think Britain would feel this recession particularly hard - there were never that many jobs per capita to start with, hey?
We're only just starting to feel the pinch over here, whatever the newspapers say, but it's always Hospitality and Artists who feel it first as people start to cut back on the 'luxuries'.
As for cooking, LC, I'm lucky that my husband is not a picky man!
But yes, we eat a lot of take-out...
Back on topic, I was one of the requesters that vanished awhile back main as like and work decided I need no free time for a while, then I forgot my password(good thing there is a way to reset it here) and am finally back.
My Last request was taken and I would not hear from the artist for 2-3 weeks sometimes, though he did get 2 or 3 prelim drawings done and sent to me... his work was great. Then he just vanished and I never got a response from him again. Now the need for that character is basically gone as that game stopped... As for the request itself, I can't find it on the forums anywhere so I figure it was deleted in a routine clean up at one point.
So I agree some kind of time limit may be needed before the requestor or artist can step back and put the request back in the open to be taken stack.
Slie Amos
Hey man, what request would that be?
Perhaps it got moved to the 'Taken' forum? Perhaps the blog is still up?
Just had a look; is it this one?
I'm a new requester. I've been hanging in the shadows for a while, and just really haven't had a character that I really felt that I needed to have an illustration for until I started getting this character together. I'm not planning on vanishing, and I may make some more requests here in the near future, considering that I run a Saga edition game as well as playing in this new D6 game. ;-)

Mercy,
Yea that's it. I must have missed it when I went through the taken forum... Nice catch, and your work has gotten very good during my real life induced absence.
Guess it can be move back to the request forums... be nice to actually see it finished even if the character is inactive now.
Slie Amos
I'd suggest making a new request, if you are still interested in getting it done, and your other one can either be deleted or moved to finish with a tag on it, stating it wasn't finished.. Your choice...
Xanamiar,
I may just make a new one, not sure yet. But there is no sense in moving it to the completed section if it never got out of the first stages of work, I have 2 prelim drawings total while the drawings are nice they are nothing more than just the body and some minor work on the face and equipment / armor.
Well I may repost it later, but I am trying to work up another request for an active character and one for a creature...
Slie Amos
Fair enough, Slie. I know it's frustrating, I guess you just have to decide what's important and, as much a seeing this character finished would be cool, perhaps you have others you are equally attached to and still playing?
PS thanks for the compliment! I am enjoying my progression too!
(real life's such a bother, isn't it? gets in the way of so much fun...)
Well, I'm a requester and I check the forums and my mail at least every three days for a chance that someone has taken my request.
And each day, with apprehension, as I type in my password and log in, my breath catches in my throat...
(dramatic pause)
...only to find that my request has not been considered. And with great sorrow, I slouch over to Google Image Search to find a picture that could contain even the barest of the essence that a SWAG artist could infuse in a particular piece of art.
