Forum Management

2008 Apr 18

Well, some of you may have noticed that the forums have actually been getting some love and being updated. Hisham has volunteered to take care of this for us, and so he is the new request forums administrator. I've been greatly needing this and just haven't asked the community for help, however, we now have it and I'm having delusions of things actually being kept up-to-date.

In other news, I'm contemplating where SWAG is going next technologically. I'm hoping in the next 3-6 months that transition will start to happen, and we may get access to some cool new toys. :-) Speaking of getting access... I have had about a billion requests for the Sabacc deck to be put back online. I WILL do this as soon as I can. The images that didn't make the conversion are just kind of a pain to get updated, but this IS high on my priority list. With that said, I'm going to make the suggestion to the community in general that this is a HIGH PROFILE item, and that you might consider doing your own deck of Sabacc cards. I'll be sure to develop up a special place just for those cards, so please folks, let's get a few decks put together and out there for people to download and play with.

As always, I really love this community and all the great artwork coming out of it, and I feel incredibly privileged to be directing it. You all are the best.

Hisham

I've glanced through the Request forums once and moved the appropriate threads already. But if there's any that passed me by because the artist did not post of the completion of the request within the thread, please let me know and I'll herd the critter to its proper corral.

The other thing I'm contemplating for the Taken Request forum is to add the names of the artist that yoinked each thread (which I believe was implemented by SWAG 1.0), for a couple of reasons: 1. The artist won't forget if he or she yoinked the thread just in case the artist was lethargic while yoinking, 2. The artist can easily remember how many requests he's yoinked so he or she can budget whether to take another request or not.

Feedback and other suggestions are welcome. Chocolates too.

Hey Hish, I updated a couple of completed requests with links in the taken forum. I'll keep an eye out for any others. Hope this helps. :)

completely off topic guys, but...

I had this weird dream a few weeks ago and keep forgetting to mention it. What about setting up a little booth at one of the SW or comic-book conventions, and people could get a quick drawing of their SWRPG character for, like, $10 or something.
It would be a good way to raise some money for SWAG as well as its profile. I'd be keen to do it over here, but we don't have the conventions you guys do in the states. The only one of real significance is 'Armageddon', and that's just been... (and then there's the whole 'sad git sitting on her own in a corner' thing...)

Just a thought, anyway. With the calibur of artists we have on the site we've got to be able to make some money to keep the place running!

Mercy,

For quite some time I've wanted to do that at Gencon, but it's sort of hard w/o the artists present. I'd put up some fund raising stuff on the site to get us a booth at Gencon, if there were artists interested in coming and sitting behind it and helping out. There's also some chance that we might be able to physically link with some of the professional artists who happen to do that show and are members of SWAG. (i.e. Jeff Carlisle and perhaps Daniel Falconer on the rare occasions he makes it). We've gathered more professional artists in this last year as well, and of course just depending on circumstances, there's a chance they might make it there as well. Anyway, there's LOTS of possibility, it's just something that hasn't been explored. Also, I've been so busy this year, I'm questioning whether I'll actually make it to Gencon myself this year.

If everything went smoothly for a Gencon art booth, I'd be very interested in hitting up ComicCon and some of the others, but I need a test site, and Gencon is the one I'm most familiar with.

Well, as I say, I'd turn up to help out if it wasn't for that whole 'not living in the USA' thing. It's a bugger the artists are spread so far and wide, in a way. It makes meeting up for these things a bit difficult.
Still, sounds like it could be quite cool. Good luck with it - and keep us posted!

I am thinking about buying this large lego looking star wars storm trooper figure and I want to know if anyone has seen it before or bought it before? I would also like to know if anyone has ever bought anything from this company's website. This aint no lego minifig this thing is one of the largest looking lego figures I have ever seen. There is no manufacture listed for this toy storm trooper. I really like the thing but I am not sure about buying from a company over seas in China. They look like a reputable company but I would feel better if I knew some one who has bought from them before. I can't find this collectible star wars figure anywhere else on the net and I really want it. Their website is www.LDUcompany.com and the link to their collectibles page is www.liangdianup.com/collectibles_1.htm

If any one out there knows anything about this big lego storm trooper please reply. Thank you :)
