Female Twi'lek crime lord and her Mando bodyguard at the Imperial Palace

A request from bellatendris;

Her:
Royal blue (and I mean glowing sapphire blue) skin, blue eyes, black tattooed eyebrows, lekku longer than average. Curvacious, running to nicely plump, and very, very feminine. About five six, give or take.

Clothing: (This is long, but please bear with me, I was going for detail as much as possible- the following description is from a work-in-progress of mine and is considered my intellectual property.)

I went into the bedroom and began to lay out my clothes as well. The skirt needed to hang to let the fabric relax. At the last minute, the few shreds of modesty I had left had invoked themselves and I had added side panels to the long white loincloth. After all, I wanted to look expensive and classy, not expensive and easy. But since I was still Bella Tendris, Twi’lek, the seams were slit well up to my thighs. The wide black soft leather belt was encrusted with sapphires set in a silvery metal in a swirling motif, and the black side panels that I had added were embroidered with gray and white Kushiban silk threads that repeated the motif of the belt. The belt rode low over my hips and glittered with every movement. The fabric swirled lusciously around my ankles with every step.

The halter was the crowning glory of the outfit. Two bands, one of sapphires and one of diamonds, crossed and knotted themselves over the edges of the piece, twining beautifully right in the midst of my cleavage, while the fabric between was black shot through with silver threads, so it shimmered beautifully in the slightest bit of light. There was an impressive silvery chain of diamonds that connected the halter itself to the slave collar I had ordered. This was a masterwork in and of itself. I had wanted a collar made of firegems, but the cost for that had made even me blanch. I hadn’t wanted to fuss with that, so I had settled for sapphires and emeralds interspersed with more of the black crystal that matched the chain he had given me. The wrist cuffs repeated the motif, as did the bands on the slippers that matched. I didn’t want to think about how much this had cost. At least the dress itself had been free- I had just had to pay for the collar, cuffs, and slippers. Even that had made me wince. I proudly wore the chain he had given me wrapped artistically over my lekku, the black crystal drops flashing in the light. (a long smooth silvery chain, with teardrop-shaped black crystal drops every so often)

Him:
Standard Mando armor, black plates. Silver and royal blue paint on the edges of the plates. Human, about six two, six three, built on the muscular side. No noticeable insignia except the Mythosaur skull on the right shoulder and a royal blue crescent moon on the left chest panel. Helmet on, of course. Silver cloak, about knee length. No jet-pack or missle launcher.

Setting:
In a guest suite in the Imperial Palace, facing each other, three-quarter profile or so. For comic relief, there could be a door behind her with two holes punched through it at about chest height. A table nearby with jade roses in a vase, a bottle of wine, and two glasses. They are about to go to an Imperial ball being hosted by Thrawn. She is looking up at him and smiling wickedly- she didn't expect he would show up but he did. The song I was listening to as I wrote this bit was "Bad Things", the theme to True Blood, but from Bella's perspective- she wants to do naughty things to her bodyguard ;) So have fun with that if you want to add the aura of innuendo.

Okay, as you may have noticed, this request got bumped up the line somewhat by one of my other requesters (who wishes to stay anonymous) giving up his place...

So here is the background that I envision for the piece. Stately, atmospheric and expensive.
I will start to work now on the characters sketches that will eventually go and block it out - poor planning on my part, I admit, but we'll see what happens, yeah?

I know this is backwards to the way I usually do things, so I'm a bit unsure of how it will turn out down the line. Cross fingers for me!!

Lord Crumb

It looks cool! The sofa reminds me of that stone statue of two people together or it just may be my perception of the scene.

Xanamiar

Absolutely gorgeous background Mercy... And right down to the details on it too. Looks great.

Mercy

Neat! Cheers guys!

The chair is meant to be a chaise longue - I always think of it as the epitome of expensive style...

Asok

I'm liking the details on the sketch! And by the way Mercy, how have you been doing these great backgrounds lately? I'm trying to get the skill of landscape drawing, and drawing more integrated scenes.

Oh, mercy, Mercy!! She's lovely! And the room is perfect as well- I hadn't really thought about it much but oooooh does that chaise longue have possibilities.

I SO can't wait to see how it looks when it's done! I am not worthy!!

Mercy

Wicked cool!!
I'll keep going and you can let me know if anything needs altering...

Thanks Asok! (& Darth!)
I've been working on my backgrounds, as I feel it has been one of my failings before now (it's so much easier to do a misty swirl!). I've found that starting with a bunch of photos or screen caps and drawing over them is a great help. I think it helps get the details right, then you can start building your own backgrounds based on this knowledge.
At least, this is what has helped me...
Anyway - glad to hear it's working!! Cheers guys!

Mercy

Here's the base colour for Bella.
Let me know if this is what you had in mind, k?

I love the costume designs. I like the twilek best though. His outfit rocks. You are top in the design dept.

I have ADOS..Attention Deficit...OOOH Shiny

This one is turning out nicely. It's so much fun to watch your drawings unfold step by step.

bellatendris

This is looking great, Mercy! I love his pose....it conveys exactly what I was thinking.

Rozali, the bodyguard char is based on Fett, loosely, so I asked Mercy to kind of keep him in mind.

Mercy

Cheers all! Yeah, I'll change some of the colouring on the bodyguard's armour to make it a little more original, but I was asked to make it pretty similar.
Anyway, glad you all like! I'll post again soon!

Mercy

Hey all!
Here's a new version with light and shadow added to much of it.
Also, the second version I've altered to be a deeper blue base skin tone - preferences? I don't know...

Lord Crumb

It looks great Mercy. I am vexed sorely waiting to see this pic completed and your artist talent to flourish.

Looking amazing, Mercy! The new skin color is spot-on, and the highlights/shadows are beautiful. Can't wait to see it finished, printed, framed, and on my wall!

Mercy

Okay! I think this one's about done!
I know it doesn't look much different but those beads take AGES!!!

Mercy

No worries Bella! Just glad you like it!

I'll load this one up to the gallery and make a start on colouring the other one.
BTW - if you want to print this one out to frame (I think you mentioned that somewhere) please PM me your email address and I will send you a copy of the JPG, k?

Cheers guys!

Mercy

Hey Casca! Working on the Bodyguard as a separate picture.
Just getting distracted by FF XII at the mo...
will post soon!

bellatendris

Mercy, just wanted to let you know that I took the pic to work today to use as my desktop there, and got no end of compliments on your work!

Mercy

Okie-dokie!
Thanks for the patience Bella!

I have here three pieces...
The first is pretty close to the original colouring for Fett. (I really don't want to use this one! I just put it in for perspective.)
The second and third are a few colour schemes that I think work.
What I need to know is, of the two, what should I go with?
Is there a better colour combination that you can suggest? Or perhaps a variation on one of the ones already up? Let me know, k?

Cheers!

I like the second one, but maybe a little less yellow in the lighter brown, if that makes any sense. And I would really prefer the area around the visor to match the chest plates- black rather than brown.

I was kind of hoping for a palette of greys and blacks, to be honest, with a little light accent of blue and/or silver. He's fairly monochromatic compared to her, in my mind's eye. Like you set a diamond, platinum, and sapphire ring against black velvet to make the colors pop, if that makes any sense. She's the one on display, he just sets her off.

I know that's probably a lot more boring than you're used to doing, Mercy, and I thank you again for all your lovely detailed work on this.

Mercy

Hi guys! I'm a little confused - 2nd of the two I liked, or second of the three pictures??
Thanks heaps for the input - I just should have framed my question better!

In any case, I will have another go at the colouring, Bella, and post another version...

Cheers!

*channeling HK-47 for a moment*

Clarification:
The "original" colors- don't worry about it. Not what I want.

1st non-original color scheme- close, but not quite what I had in mind.
2nd non-original color scheme- I don't like the earth tone brown/green.

(not trying to be rude, trying to be clear ;) )

Mercy

Heh - I always really liked HK!

Anyway, as I say, I'll have another go at the colouring with a more metallic, monochromatic scheme in mind. Will post again when I have something for you!

Mercy

Okay, here's what I've got...

Let me know if it's more like what you had wanted, k?

Mercy

And here's the version with lighting and shadow.
I'm quite pleased with it so far - let me know what you think!
