Cali - A Teenage Ex-Slave with a Bit of a Mean Streak!

Request by I. J. Thompson;

"Cali is a seventeen year-old human slave-girl (the domestic cooking-and-cleaning kind, not the dancing kind), who has very recently been rescued from servitude in Mos Eisley by our campaign's heroes. She has short, spiky blonde hair (to counteract Tatooine's heat), possibly some freckles, and is a bit on the thin side (though not emaciated). She's quite a tomboy, and though she's currently wearing a short, fancy dress that she stole from a shop on Ryloth, she's quite obviously out of place in such a garment.

Though young, Cali has displayed a bit of a vengeful, murderous streak, likely the result of her life of servitude. Though she is generally upbeat and likes to joke around, her anger can erupt in an instant. She's taken to carrying a fearsome-looking vibroblade, pilfered from the body of a slaver who tried to forcibly bring her back into 'the business'."

Read the original request, and a scene she is in, HERE!

I've drawn up a couple of sketches, of different costumes she could be in...

Bwa.

Looks AWESOME Mercy! I definitely (just my oopinion) like the left one better, because it seems more rough and defiant and ex-slave-girl-ish. Keep it up + I can't wait to see the colors!

I. J. Thompson

Mercy, this is AMAZING!

I agree with Bwa, the picture on the left is a home-run (though I love the 2nd, too!). It really captures the out-of-her-element-ness (did I just invent a word?) of this kid.

Thank you so much for picking this up! :) :)

Mercy

I totally agree! I liked the French Maid's picture best, too!
I'll ink it up and post again soon!

I. J. Thompson

This is outstanding!

I love the fact that her dress seems too small - I hadn't thought about it, but it makes perfect sense that Cali would have no idea what her dress size is, and just grabbed something that looked pretty close... brilliant!

Also, I love the boots! :)

Mercy

Cool! (I liked the boots too!)

I'll post up the latest colour version. It's just matte colour at this point, no shading, but at least it'll give you an idea what it's looking like...
Thoughts?

I. J. Thompson

Wooooow, looking good!

I wonder... have you thought about going full-bore, and trying the dress in, say, pink? Normally I wouldn't ask, but there's another girl in the campaign who kinda wears blue all the time. This is just a small suggestion, however... I can't express enough how thrilled I am with what you're doing!

I. J. Thompson

I'm so daft.

The first images being in black and white, I didn't realize (despite your saying so in the description) that this was a maid's uniform until just after my last post, when you posted the colour one!

While we'd established her slave-garb as being the typical 'Tatooine browns', this concept adds a hilarious irony - as though, when she was looking for the most glamorous gown to steal, Cali inadvertently grabbed a professional maid's uniform! She truly wouldn't know the difference, and the coincidence is deliciously comical.

Again... brilliant! :D

Mercy

Heh! I hadn't even thought of that - good pick, man!
Ah - the ironing is delicious...

Anyway. I'll load up the new version with shading - I have only just read your post about changing the colour, so I will have a go at that now. I don't think this will be difficult at all, as I have left the layers separate.
Yeah, Asok - the lines are done by hand as another layer in Photoshop rather than inking it for real. I find you end up with a cleaner end result. Plus, I love my eraser tool, I just make too many mistakes without it!

Mercy

Yup, no sweat!
Here she is in Pink...

Oh, also, I had forgotten her freckles, so I've added those as well.

Lord Crumb

I must say that you have hit the mark on the pic with Cali wearing the pink dress. It looks awesome. She is certainly not the type to wear clothes like that if she afford more suited to her disposition.

Mercy

Cool!
Glad you all like it!

It's been a while since I've resurrected the style for this picture but I'm pleased I did as it seems to suit her. Thanks for all the constructive comments people - I think she's come out real well for it!

I'll load the picture to gallery now - hopefully it will resolve on the front page soon...

I. J. Thompson

Can't wait! (and yes, this style does absolutely suit!) :)
