Okay! I'm calling this one "The Escape". I started out with a rough thumbnail in the corner, and some loose, crappy sketches of the main characters. On the left is Kesto N'tarr, a Nagai, and the guy with the guns is Captain Sebastian Muro.

On the next page, I'm playing around with the thumbnails some more, trying to find the angle that I want, tightening up the background a little. I also drew a picture of a blaster, which I wanted to look like a revolver. I think I was actually looking at the dude's gun in Serenity or something.

Sketch 3 is a slightly bigger thumb, tightening up the background even more. Normally a person probably wouldn't do this, but I did all these at work and just wanted to play with it some more before I got home. Oh, also I drew a picture of a Jawa. I don't know why that's in there.

The next step was to get the poses down in poser. This isn't a step I always use, but since I was playing with a weird angle, I decided that this would save me some time. As you can see, I was able to pretty easily get the poses I wanted and exactly the angle I wanted. It was very simple to composite them in photoshop.

Next I traced over the poser clips roughly just to get a feel for them. I used red so it would be easy to tell the difference between that and my final lines. I don't normally trace the poser models, but in this case I thought it worked out prettty well.

Finally, I started roughing in the background. What you see here is a combination of the original loose painting I did in photoshop, and the tightened elements I began to add. Currently it looks too cut and pasted, so I'm gonna need to keep playing with it for sure. This is definitely the part where your suggestions will be necessary. I appreciate any tips y'all can give regarding backgrounds.

Anyway, tell me what you think so far!

I'm really REALLY loving this WIP, great stuff there! Anytime we can get someone's process I think it goes a long ways toward helping others out. Thanks for taking the time on this one. :-) I can't wait to see the finished product.

Wow, that is an intense process! It looks amazing, and I'm looking forward to seeing a final version.

Thanks, guys. Honestly, I think part of the reason it's intense is because I complicate the hell out of things, haha.
